A. A prose and poetry contest for high school writing students. Submissions open January 12th, 2022, and close February 22nd, 2022. Submissions from all high school students in the city of Charlottesville, Albemarle County, and adjacent counties are eligible to be presented at the Mirabella Prose & Poetry Contest during the week of the  Virginia Festival of the Book. 

B. All submissions must be made through the Submittable portal. This is a volunteer-run contest, and paper submissions cannot be accommodated. Help is available by email at twc@tupelopress.org. 

C. Each submission must include (1) the writer’s name; (2) the name of the school or home school; (3) the teacher’s name and parent/guardian’s name* and email; and (4) the school or home phone number, in the Cover Letter section, not in the body of the submission. 

D. The Mirabella Prose and Poetry Contest judge will be announced next week. Please be sure no identifying information (no name) is in your document. Your submission(s) will all be linked to the information on your submission form. You must include a title on all submitted work. Untitled is acceptable (Think of how challenging it is to organize 150 + submissions with 40+ titled "untitled")

E. Written work must be Poetry or Prose on any topic. Prose may not exceed 1,000 words. Poetry may not exceed two single-spaced pages

F. Two Prose or Poetry Entries per student,  will be eligible for the Mirabella Poetry & Prose Contest, and for publication in the Crossroads VII anthology.

G. Open only to students in Charlottesville, Albemarle County, and adjacent counties. Email twc@tupelopress.org with any questions.

H. Winning entries will be invited to read at the Mirabella Poetry & Prose Celebration, to be held via Zoom on, April 27th, 2022. in order not to conflict with events during the week of the Virginia Festival of the Book and to accommodate winter weather delays.

I. Submissions are eligible to be published in the Crossroads IX anthology of teen writing. All rights to all written work from all teen students remain with the author.

J. We will again be offering a $500 prize for the winning entry in the High School Contest, as selected by our judge from ten finalists.
